We are the oldest center in Lucknow for LASIK and the only center for PHAKIC INTRAOCULAR lenses or Implantable collamer lenses (ICL). Every patient who wants a LASIK surgery undergoes a detailed refraction and corneal topographical analysis using Orbscan™ (B & L) and an aberrometry test on wavescan™ aberrometry machine. This helps in calculating the higher order defects present in each individual’s eyes apart from the refractive error. These readings are then fed in the Customized LASIK machine “CustomVue™”.
The advantage of undergoing a customized LASIK is that the machine treats all the lower order and higher order aberrations in each patient’s eye i.e. the treatment is customized to each patient. This leads to better quality of vision especially night vision.
Those patients found unsuitable for LASIK are evaluated for various other options like LASEK , Phakic IOLs or ICLs.
There is a degree of distortion when looking through the periphery of the glasses, the field of vision is reduced and on leaving a cold room moisture can fog the glasses and blur vision for a few minutes. Hence glasses are unacceptable for certain careers. Contact lenses require motivation with great attention to hygiene during insertion and removal, failing which sight - threatening infections may result.
LASIK overcomes all these disadvantages. LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a type of refractive laser eye surgery performed by ophthalmologists for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The procedure is generally preferred to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, (also called ASA, Advanced Surface Ablation) because it requires less time for the patient's recovery, and the patient feels less pain. Many patients choose LASIK as an alternative to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses. LASIK helps tremendously in some careers such as Merchant Navy and Airways that requires 20/20 or 6/6 vision. History In 1991, Ionas Pallikaris, MD,in Heraklion, Crete, was probably the first to use a microkeratome to cut a thin flap of cornea and then apply the excimer laser to remove tissue from within the cornea. He coined the term laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for this procedure. "Keratomileusis" is derived from two Greek word that literally mean "to shape the cornea.""In-situ" means "in place." Therefore, the term LASIK means "to reshape the cornea in place using laser."
